The Sensory Garden

Sensory Garden 4

Very shortly after the Sensory Resource came in to being we began to design a sensory garden to surround the Resource base.
The garden has evolved over several years with generous donations provided us with a water feature, musical wall and semi-circular benches.
Art work in the garden has been completed by the school art department and students from the university.
The garden contains plants and shrubs which are striking in colour, extremely tactile or very aromatic.
A variety of different textured slabs, cobbles and tiles allows our pupils who are non-ambulant to experience a different sensation as they go over them in the wheelchairs.
Pupils use the garden throughout the day. It is a favoured place during breaks and lunch time and staff bring children either individually or as a group on a regular basis.
